unique
Sipsey Wilderness.
HIKEWEB -- featuring many trails in our area, including sections of the Pinhoti Trail, Sipsey Wilderness, Chinnabee Silent Trail, and other trails in the Southeast.
As for good books profiling Alabama's trails, we recommend
"Alabama Trails," by Patricia Stenger Sharpe. The book profiles
most every trail in the state, and even provides (although not
always accurate) profile maps. It is the best offered, in our
opinion. The book is published by the University of Alabama Press,
and can be ordered through Books-A-Million in Birmingham,
AL, for less than $20.00. The order information is:

You can also order "Alabama Trails" through The Nature
Company store at the Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham. They
will ship the book to you anywhere. The cost of the book is $17.95.

As for Pinhoti Trail maps, you'll need to get in touch with one
of the district ranger's offices for the
Talladega National Forest in Alabama. Pinhoti trail maps beyond
the Talladega National Forest boundaries (Davis and Indian
Mountains) can be obtained from the ATA by sending an e-mail to
the ATA
webmaster.
